personal deep dive:
So, I come from a cultural background where a career in art and design is considered a lesser pursuit. My father never allowed me to go to university and insisted i get married Straight after sixth form. Every job I've landed since then has been a quiet rebellion for independence and to build a life on my own terms.
Although i find being an apprentice at warner bros. Discovery and getting my work nominated for a recognised award pretty amazing, my achievements have never amounted to much value to my family and often times i forget to be proud of myself for having reached this far in life without a degree when it is incredibly difficult to do so in the design industry.
After leaving WBD, i've been freelancing full time and launched my own islamic art prints shop, duha. Featuring studio quality postcards, wall art, wedding certificates and more. click here to visit the site.
If you've had a nosey look through my portfolio you may have come across my dabblings in storybook illustrations. My dream is to one day publish a collection of my own books, to carve out a corner in the muslim literary world of something whimsical and magical and cosy. intertwining imaginative storytelling with islamic studies to make learning more enjoyable for new and young muslims.
and a colouring book.
that is also on the list too.
